BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY

Internship Program

On an ongoing basis, KQV (AM) provides management level instruction and oversight to an intern from a Pittsburgh and other area college or university, including University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University, Point Park University, Washington & Jefferson College, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, Ohio University, and Notre Dame University. During this reporting period, a student attending Ohio University, participated in the KQV News internship program, which provides training in all aspects of radio news production, including reporting, writing, and editing of news stories.

Internship Program (high school)

 

In August 2009, in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, KQV (AM) conducted an intensive, week-long journalism training program for students from Pittsburgh and other high schools. Each day from August 1-8, from 6-10 PM, three students were provided with staff advisors (news reporter and editor) and access to the KQV studio to prepare news stories that aired later in the month on KQV (AM0's weekly news magazine, Pittsburgh Profiles Each intern conducted interviews in the newsroom and /or in the field, then edited the audio and co,bined the resulting stories into a 15 minute segment for the Profiles program. The three interns who participated in the August 2009 program included a junior from CICS Ralph Ellison High School, Chicago, IL; a senior from Taylor Allderdice High School, Pittsburgh, PA; and a senior from Everett High School, Everett, WA.
